Abstract

Starting from one of the most controversial dialogues of Plato, the Parmenides, this article seeks an ethical dimension for this dialogue. The Parmenides is and has been read mainly in a logical, epistemological or ontological way. Here, the author attempts to emphasize Platonic ethics, because it justifies all of the philosopher’s thought and is therefore in all his dialogues. For making possible the knowledge of Good, Plato has to admit, unlike Parmenides, that there are two modes of being: kath’hauto and pros ti.
