The virtuous path and the Theurgy of Iamblichus
Keywords:
Iamblichus, Theurgy, virtues, ethics, rituals, NeoplatonismAbstract
Iamblichus in his neoplatonic philosophical school established an innovative and influent educational curriculum aspiring at a gradual virtuous progress initiated by ethical-political virtues culminating with the theurgical virtues. It is then a common ground that the philosopher has actually given primacy to Theurgy in relation to Philosophy. Nevertheless, the need for a philosophical education is not lost nor even diminished. This article intends to show this intimate relation of Theurgy and Philosophy, and how, for the philosopher, the ethical education and development was a prerequisite for the progress to the higher virtues.Downloads
