A amizade é um tema recorrente no pensamento estóico antigo. Tanto Cícero quanto Sêneca explicitam seus mecanismos e apontam seus perigos.Dedicar-se aos amigos é muito mais do que um mero contato social: trata-se de uma questão ética das mais importantes, uma vez que abre o diálogo sobre os diversos modos como os homens são capazes de agir e reagir quando não estão sozinhos.
