Neoptolemus’ Moral Conflict: an Aristotelian reading of the tragedy Philoctetes (NE VII 1146a16-21e 1151b17-22)
Keywords:
Aristotle, Sophocles, Virtue of Character, PhronesisAbstract
Opposing the interpretations that overvalue the role played by reason in the choices of moral ends, I intend to rescue the positive role that virtue of character, a non-rational virtue, may play in such choices. I will do it taking into account Aristotle’s analysis of Neoptolemus’ moral crisis in the tragedy Philoctetes.References
