Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present an interpretation of a short passage 5 of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, III 5, 1114a 10-25. According to some commentators, in this passage Aristotle states the thesis that an already established character cannot be reversed. We contend that this is a misinterpretation, and that the point of argumentation is only to show that any change in an established character demands efforts that go beyond the mere desire of an individual.
