Plato on soul, body, sex and gender
Keywords:
Plato, soul, body, genderAbstract
If there is one thing that most people think they know about Plato, it is that he had a very jaundiced view of the body, and of its relationship to soul, along with remarkable views about sexual relations, especially between males, and that these views are in some way reflected and summed up in what is now frequently referred to as 'Platonic love'. This paper tries to show that the true situation, on these and on a number of cognate topics, is a lot more complicated, and lot more interesting, than this.Downloads
