Abstract

Starting from the hypothesis that all language includes within itself some form of knowledge and world-view, and that the forms of philosophical and scientific discourse are specific transformations of pre-existing knowledge, this article considers the Catalogue of the Nereids in Homer and Hesiod and analyzes it as a perfected example of categorical discourse, with its relationships of subordination, attribution and inherence.
