Abstract

This paper deals with two criticisms Aristotle addresses to Heraclitus. In the first one Heraclitus is criticized because he does not respect the law of contradiction; in the second one Aristotle attacks him for not having a speech “easy to read” (euanagnoston) and “easy to understand” (euphraston). These criticisms do not take into account the fact that Heraclitus’ writings were composed following the patterns and conditions of an oral culture.
