Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

i - Rules for Authors

1.     The subjects of History of Ancient Philosophy or Classical Studies, which are the areas of interest of our journal, must be fully or partly addressed by the article; it is the editors’ role to decide a possible publication of another area;

2.     On receipt of the article by the editor, it shall be analyzed by the board of reviewers; the publication board shall decide upon its publication and authors notified about the article’s acceptation or not acceptation; in case it is accepted by the board it shall be published in paperback and online.

3.     The following information is necessary for the articles’ submission to the journal: submission date, author's email address, the institution for which he or she works, and postal address;

4.     The text must be accompanied by an abstract comprising at most eight lines, with up to four key-words, both in its original language and English, as the case may be;

5.     The text must be formatted according to the rules for publication of periodicals (check ABNT rules), written in “Times New Roman”, size 12, line spacing 1.5.

6.     If a reviewer is not available for the author’s field of investigation, an ad hoc reviewer shall be appointed by the editorial board;

7.     Hypnos is a nonprofit journal. Therefore, authors should not expect payment for published articles;

8.     Eventually secondary publication of material published in other journals may be justifiable and beneficial. The board may decide, in these conditions, for the publication of non-original texts. In this case, the authors must provide the references for the original publication of their articles;

9.     The contents of the text are the sole responsibility of their authors; while holding the editorship the denial of those which bring in its body illegality of any kind, such as discrimination of gender, ethnicity, sexual, religious or political orientation, or incitement to violence;

10.  In case the author feels injured or notices any significant error in their publication, it is his responsibility to notify promptly the journal editor.

 

ii - Rules for editors, board of reviewers, reviewers, translators and visual designers

1. The editors hold the right not to publish articles whose content hurts any of the items outlined in item 9 of the Rules for Authors, in addition to strictly follow these rules from the receipt process of the text until its eventual publication.

2. The editors are committed to undertake investigations of any legal problems that may harm the authors after the publication of the texts, and in the extent of their power to adopt and follow reasonable procedures, such as retractions, corrections, republication, depending on each case, if they receive complaints about;

3. Editors, translators and reviewers are obliged to preserve the anonymity of the received authors’ material until its eventual publication;

4. Editors, reviewers, translators and visual designers may not have any conflicts of interest in relation to the authors, financial institutions, themes or any other type of conflict that may harm the ethics of his work on Hypnos;

5. Reviewers are forbidden to issue opinions if there is any particular interest in relation to the author or conflict of interest of any kind.

 

III – On Ethical Issues

Hypnos is committed to the highest standards of integrity and in accordance with relevant legislation. Misconduct and unethical behavior may be identified and brought to the attention of the editor and publisher at any time, by anyone. Whoever informs the editor or publisher of such conduct should provide sufficient information and evidence in order for an investigation to be initiated. All allegations should be taken seriously and treated in the same way, until a successful decision or conclusion is reached. 2. An initial decision for investigation should be taken by the editor, then the investigation runs as follows:

  • Evidence should be gathered with zeal and anonymity. In any event, the author will be given the opportunity to respond to any allegations.
  • A warning letter to the author or to any other person involved in the matter should be sent by the editors;
  • In case of serious misconduct the editor may report the case and outcome to a higher authority for further investigation and action.
